The “huge, very effective and very important effort to monitor our borders by the Greek Police” that takes place on the fence of Evros underlined the Minister of Citizen Protection, Yiannis Oikonomou, who is today visiting Border Guard Departments of the Regional Unit of Evros.
In statements he made next to the fence, in the area of Fera, he mentioned that he had the opportunity to talk with executives and officers of the Greek Police, as well as Frontex executives, noting the very cordial and substantial cooperation between them.
He described the country’s immigration policy as strict but absolutely fairwhich is based on respect for international obligations, “our humanitarian tradition always next to those in need, always in favor of legal immigration, but non-negotiable against any criminal activity, any attempt at illegal entry, in a permanent open front with the smugglers and those who don’t respect our borders, the borders of the country, the borders of the European Union, they don’t even respect human life, putting people in great danger”.
Mr. Economou assured that “the Greek State has been and will continue to be next to the Greek Police in every appropriate way, to strengthen our presence, to adapt our operational action, to upgrade our technological means and technological us infrastructure, so in order to meet our political responsibility and our patriotic duty. To effectively guard our borders, to stand against criminal organizations and smugglers, to consolidate a high sense of security for our country, but also for the European Union”.
