In Chania, on Tuesday night, the party’s presidential candidate, Stefanos Kasselakis.

Mr. Kasselakis, after announcing his candidacy, held his first event at Tombs of the Venizelos where he had the opportunity to chat with friends and supporters of the party.

“I am paraphrasing the words of Kazantzakis, that Crete is not for housewives, it’s for the kousouls. Because the Kouzoulos make this place so proud… I’m a cunt who left America to return to his roots. To try to leave a legacy in my own little way” he said characteristically, speaking to the people of Chania.

Mr. Kasselakis promised that “I will speak straight (equally) to you” and after a brief statement to the media he greeted and spoke to those gathered.

Mr. Kasselakis appeared concerned about the course of the country, criticizing the government, emphasizing that “we can be better than what we see at the moment”.

At the same time, he called on the citizens to support him saying “we are here and with your power if you give it to me, I will put things right, that and only that”.

Mr. Kasselakis stood in front of the Tombs of Venizelos, while in his statement he referred to his decision to start his pre-election campaign from Chania.

“This moment, this reception, is completely unexpected for me. I feel truly humbled, I am very moved especially here, in my roots, here where I used to come every summer.”

Mr. Kasselakis remembered his grandmother and grandfather, speaking with touching words about them, characteristically saying: “I feel their memory very deeply inside me”.

Referring to his candidacy for the presidency of SYRIZA he stated. “We have a long way to go, I know very well that I have a lot to prove and that’s what I’m going to do.”
