From his place of origin, Chania, Stefanos Kasselakis started his election campaign as a candidate for president of SYRIZA-PS – as he had similarly done as a candidate on the State ballot of the Official Opposition party in the recent national elections.

“As Kazantzakis has said, it is the Kouzoulos who make Crete special. And from this point of view, I keep the Cretan tradition!”, he emphasized in his statements to the media.

Clearly moved by the warm reception he received in Chania, Stefanos Kasselakis thanked “with humility”. “I am here in Chania, in my Crete, in my roots. Here where I used to come every summer” he said while referring to his grandparents, saying with emotion “I feel their memory very deep inside me”.

“We have a long way to go, I know very well that I have a lot to prove and that’s what I’m going to do.”

At the Tombs of Venizelos in Akrotiri, the candidate President addressed members and friends of SYRIZA-PS, presenting his positions and proposals for the reconstruction of the party and the Left of the future.

“I’m a “Kuzulus” who leaves America to come to his homeland to leave a legacy with his small powers,” he pointed out, adding that “we have a long way to go, I know very well that I have a lot to prove and that’s what I’m going to do” .

Church-State Relations: The time has long come

In his discussions with the people of Chania, many were those who positively supported the issue of State-Church separation, which is included in the proposals of the political platform www.anasigkrotisitora.gr. “The time is long overdue. The social majority already exists,” said the SYRIZA-PS presidential candidate.

“If you give me the power, I’ll tell the truth”

Stefanos Kasselakis called on the citizens to support him, saying “The Left is a code of values, it is a way of life. The left is to be interested in social justice, equality, the socially weak”.

“If you give me the strength, I’ll talk things out – that’s how we Cretans say it.” That and only that.”
