“The prime minister insists on pointing fingers with statistics. As much land burned in one prefecture in Greece, in Evros, burned in an entire country in Italy”, said the president of Niki, Dimitris Natsios, during his second appeal to the Parliament.

“The fact that Greece ranks first among 20 Mediterranean countries in burned areas while these countries have a similar climate, indicates that no climate crisis is responsible for our destruction, and that our country has become a ballast for dark interests that are not at home without resistance” he added. “For another year the only plan of fire protection, is the 112 evasion, and you flag it, saying literally, that next to the great sadness for the acres you lost, you will be proud of the lives you saved.”

Referring to the climate crisis, the president of Nike noted that “the climate crisis does not light fires anywhere. It does not place incendiary devices in forests and wastelands. It does not cause selective destruction in areas of high strategic importance and military bases. It does not leave the country unprotected during the fire season. It does not deforest the costs of firefighting. It does not leave the forest services understaffed. It does not create aging ground and air firefighting fleets. It does not invest in fire extinguishers for rent.”

Addressing the government, Mr. Natsios estimated that “in your mind is how you will turn the forest into timber. The cohesive link with nature has been lost, and you have replaced it with the cohesive link of money. You have declared war on the countryside. Our demographic withering is desolating the countryside and rural areas. There are no local communities to support the natural wealth of their place.

Instead of doing everything to repopulate the countryside with Greek children, you sign agreements with other countries to import foreign seasonal workers, and at the same time leave the borders unguarded to flood our forests with illegal immigrants.”

In conclusion, Mr. Natsios argued that adequate fire safety measures are not being taken, especially in important facilities.

“Certainly, it is no coincidence Mr. Prime Minister that critical military facilities caught fire in the new Aghialos, and ammunition depots were threatened in Avanda of Evros and in the mountainous Rodopi. But the question that arises is this: what is the planning for fire safety in such critical and important military installations?

There is no state. You have disbanded the police, leaving the armed forces unprotected at the mercy of internal rivalries. Even so, you just preside, Mr. Prime Minister. Your mind is how you will package the Greeks with the new identities, to continue the work of manipulating them by exploiting their personal data”, Mr. Natsios concluded.
