In the context of the decision taken at the meeting under the Prime Minister – and following the letter of the G.G. of Civil Protection B. Papageorgiou to the Regions regarding the appropriate actions for the preparation and completion of the necessary anti-corrosion and anti-flooding projects carried out with the cooperation of Regions, Municipalities and Forest Departments – the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias, given the high risk of flood events especially in areas affected by fires, with an urgent letter to all Regions and all Municipalities of the country requests:

A) The proper observance of flood prevention measures in areas where forest fires occurred in the current year, around the settlements of urban complexes (especially since they are located at the mouths of watersheds)

B) The correct implementation of the cleaning of rainwater wells (especially in view of the change in weather conditions starting next week)

C) Priority implementation of stream cleaning projects

D) The immediate convening of the competent Civil Protection coordinating bodies per Region with notification to the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and for any assistance required by the Ministry (technical assistance, provision of means).

Finally, in the context of the overall monitoring of the progress of the projects throughout the territory and to avoid delays or weaknesses in their execution, each Region/Municipality is requested to notify the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection within the next five (5) days – and henceforth within the first ten days of each month – the following:

a) summary note regarding the immediate completion of the cleaning project of the drainage wells under the responsibility of the Municipalities/Regions (with regular repetition of the planning of cleaning works throughout the period of the coming autumn and winter)

b) detailed status of completed anti-flood projects by Region.

c) in the case of unfinished anti-flood projects at the time of receipt of the Minister’s letter, a detailed timetable for their preparation, especially in areas of high risk of flood phenomena.
