“We secured our political autonomy, not only in programmatic terms but also with a stronger presence in the political system”
The anniversary of September 3 should be the trigger for PASOK-KINAL to achieve a new political victory in the Local Government elections, declared from Zappeio on Sunday the Nikos Androulakis. Speaking at the event for the 49th anniversary of the founding of PASOK, Mr. Androulakis mentioned, among other things, that “what for many last year seemed impossible, has begun to take shape. We secured our political autonomy, not only in programmatic terms but also with a stronger presence in the political system.” strong center-left that the country needs”, underlined Mr. Androulakis. And he added: “Today here from Zappeio we are sending the message that together we can design a better future of justice, progress and respect for the rights of every citizen. In this difficult but beautiful struggle, we invite the progressive world to fight together, uniting our hopes and anxieties for a Greece with a perspective of prosperity and security for all Greeks”.
The president of PASOK-KINAL emphasized how he must give his progressive political stamp with the elections in all regions of the country and wished good success to the 13 candidate regional governors and the mayors supported by PASOK. “Our compass is transparency, meritocracy and complete independence from powerful interests that take advantage of the decline of the party phenomenon to influence the making of important decisions in their favor. Our goal is a new relationship of trust with the progressive world, embracing the progressive movements of our time,” he noted.
Regarding the devastating fires that are still burning in some areas, Nikos Androulakis said that “it is not fair that every summer our forests turn to ashes…. That the country is not prepared and is left with a barrage of extreme phenomena, while we all know that they will escalate due to of the climate crisis”, at the same time strongly criticizing the government for all the spectrum of its policy, declaring that PASOK-KINAL will be next to the citizens with a daily struggle.
“We do not compromise with a Greece with a high cost of living and a low quality of life,” said Mr. Androulakis. He noted that the last elections highlighted the need for a strong and reliable opposition, for a progressive alternative governance proposal, which will be able to counter claims with the maintenance, irrationality and inefficiency of the New Democracy. “That’s the challenge. A party that was defeated both as a government and as an opposition by the New Democracy cannot play this role. But nothing will be given to us. The modern center-left that we envision cannot be built with old materials and outdated mindsets. We need seriousness, a plan, credibility, vision and effective action”, underlined the president of PASOK-KINAL, indirectly commenting on the leadership election processes in SYRIZA.
He argued that the deeds of the two-month rule of the New Democracy showed that in a series of events the staff state proved unable to guarantee the citizens’ demand for security in their lives, but also to propose solid policies for the future. He strongly criticized the prime minister for arrogance and complacency, saying that “the hypocrisy of New Democracy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis personally is incredible. He himself argued that it cannot be revised and scolded us for complete irrelevance, but as we learned the day before yesterday not only was the Recovery Fund revised, but he seems to be adopting our idea of giving incentives to private individuals to include their homes in the social housing scheme. It seems they were used to a different kind of opposition.”
Mr. Androulakis gave a first impression of his stance on the Constitutional Revision by emphasizing that it must be a process of deepening the institutions, rights and democracy in our country. And we will not allow this opportunity to be lost on the altar of temporary communication impressions that New Democracy always seeks”.
Regarding the national issues, the president of PASOK-Movement of Change, said that after Vilnius, the government prefers to turn a blind eye, while Turkey continues its provocations, even with the tolerance of NATO: “It is possible for the Alliance to congratulates Turkey on the Asia Minor disaster, which led to the slaughter and uprooting of millions of Greeks from their ancestral lands. And it is not the first time that NATO and Mr. Stoltenberg have turned a blind eye to Turkish provocation. We saw what happened in the previous days in Cyprus. The attacks by the occupying authorities on the members of the UN peacekeeping force constitute another attempt to create fait accompli and the definitive division of the island. It follows the opening of the closed area of Varosia in Famagusta in violation of International Law and the resolutions of the UN Security Council. It is necessary to effectively condemn these practices by taking measures and sanctions against those who violate International Law. There is no other way to build a peaceful world but also to forge good neighborly relations in the Eastern Mediterranean”.
