The president of PASOK criticizes the government for its handling of the bad weather Daniel with his statements, Nikos Androulakis.

His statement in more detail:

“The citizens of Thessaly are experiencing an unspeakable tragedy. We mourn the dead. The damage to homes, infrastructure, crops and livestock is enormous.

We all know the effects of climate change and extreme weather events. The point is what we do. Are we investing in prevention?

The constant biblical disasters prove that the government has failed to adapt the state to these new conditions. And this is very crucial.

In Thessaly, the network and hydraulic shielding works of many areas of Thessaly collapsed. This shows that they need to do much more than what has been done so far.

In Palamas the conditions are tragic. On a basketball court, senior citizens live in a ranch. They must immediately, from the moment the district is declared in a state of emergency, be transferred to hotel units.

Let the Government show some humanity towards these people.

We have a duty to do much more. Unfortunately, even here in Thessaly, it has been amply demonstrated that the conditions have not been created to protect the citizens from extreme weather phenomena. And I say it again, we all understand the effects of climate change, but we have a duty as a state to adapt to these new conditions and not constantly face biblical disasters.”
