“He appeared as an observer of the biblical disaster in Thessaly,” the main opposition party said
Criticism of his statements Kyriakou Mitsotakis from Larissa exercises with his notice o SYRIZA.
More detail:
“Without any apology and without a trace of self-criticism for his enormous responsibilities and after drowning the protesting citizens in Larissa with chemicals and flash grenades, Mr. Mitsotakis appeared today as a simple observer of the biblical disaster in Thessaly.
He stated the obvious, that the state should be close to the affected with support measures, however he did not say a word about the fact that he left them alone at the mercy of bad weather. No preventive measures, no coordination, no quick reaction, despite the fact that scientists had warned in time about the intensity of the bad weather and its consequences.
Mr. Mitsotakis discovered today the need to adapt to the climate crisis, after doing nothing for more than four years. The first adaptation cycle, based on the SYRIZA government’s Strategy in 2016, has not yet been completed and the Regional Adaptation Plans have not been completed in all Regions, especially in the Region of Thessaly, where the environmental impact study is pending. For these he did nothing.
But since he will meet Mrs von der Leyen, we expect him to explain to her why his MEPs voted against the European Nature Restoration Act together with the far right.
Mr. Mitsotakis also did not say a word about the delay in the Flood Risk Management Plans, for which the European Commission abandons us; that he “succeeded” in splitting climate policy, leaving water and flood management, fire prevention and forest protection to the Department of Environment and Energy, and the climate crisis as an empty shirt to the Department of Civil Protection.
Nor of course did he feel the need to give answers for the hundreds of millions given for infrastructure and flood protection works after Janos and after three years Thessaly was once again submerged in water and mud. Unfortunately, three years later, the citizens of Thessaly become spectators in the same play.
Mr. Mitsotakis does not have the slightest credibility to guarantee the resilience and adequacy of the country in the face of the consequences of the climate crisis.”
