Stefanos Kasselakis and Efi Ahtsioglou are on their way to second round of the SYRIZA elections with nine points difference between them and they put all their weapons on the table, fighting for the leadership.

On Tuesday morning, Stefanos Kasselakis had a meeting with Nikos Pappa in the Parliament. A few hours later, from the peristyle of the Parliament, Nikos Pappas expressed thehis support for Stefanos Kasselakis:

“You will see the content of the discussion in the joint statement that will be issued shortly” said Nikos Pappas and added: “It is obvious that based on the discussion we had, Stefanos will have my support and I will encourage his election in the second round on Sunday. I think he can give the breath and pace to go quickly to the prospect of victory” stressed the parliamentary representative of SYRIZA.

“Stefan good strength”Nikos Pappas concluded.

“Thank you very much Niko. On Sunday we took the first step for a progressive government in the country. Today, with your support, we are taking the second step. Ton Sunday we will take the third step. Thank you very much, we are going very hard for the victory and the great progressive government that the country needs” said Stefanos Kasselakis.

A few minutes after the declaration in the peristyle was also issued joint announcement in which reference is made to the foreign policy of Alexis Tsipras in the period 2015-2019, while also specifying the political space in which SYRIZA moves “from the left to the center”.

In addition, it is stated that “from today we are building the Great Front of Victory”.

The joint statement reads: “We are responding to the message of the massive participation of the democratic world in the September 17 process.

The 150,000 citizens, who waited for an hour or two in line, swept crisis scenarios that our political opponents are on strike.

They sent a message of unity.

A message that commits all of us to a common path based on our founding declarationwhich was voted unanimously and which is rallying people from the left to the progressive center.

We are building the members’ party, with substantial participation and decision-making at all levels, with regional organization and utilization of all executives. We activate the networks of the faction.

We are creating the patriotic, modern, ruling faction.

We stand for:

  • the foreign policy pursued by the government of Alexis Tsipras in the period 2015 – 2019. We claim solutions to foreign policy based on International Law.
  • the prospect of a country where every person will be able to live their own Greek Dream: to freely develop their potential, with justice, honesty and democracy.

We win again:

  • the world of work, the salaried, the self-employed, farmers, pensioners, people of culture, the middle class and healthy entrepreneurship.
  • the world from the left to the progressive center.

From today we are building the Great Line of Victory.

We start from this Sunday for the victory against New Democracy.

Participation, Unity, Victory”.

Debate about the debate

Meanwhile, the debate between Kasselakis and Ahtsioglou has become a field of disagreement between the two presidential candidates.

The member of parliament for the Western Athens Sector of SYRIZA stated this morning in her television interview that she has asked the secretaries of the party to hold a debate with Mr. Kasselakis.

“I asked the secretaries to ask Mr. Kasselakis and let’s see. I am absolutely open to when the debate should take place, after all, I asked for it,” said Mrs. Ahtsioglou, speaking on Tuesday morning to ANT1.

Mr. Kasselakis’ answer was negative and was given via Facebook:

“Debate with K. Mitsotakis. As Euclid Tsakalotos has aptly said: We are partners, not rivals.

With Efi, the Modern Left does not want us against each other, but together. The “togetherness” demanded by 150,000 progressive citizens at the ballot box. I invite her on a joint tour.

Let’s go together in society.”

Mrs. Ahtsioglou, for her part, insisted and retorted: “Debate with Stefanos Kasselakis. Just because we’re mates. For an honest and meaningful dialogue on our distinct political positions for our common goal, the overthrow of the right-wing government.

Out of respect for our thousands of members who want to know our positions. As Nikos Pappas had aptly said: It would be a huge mistake not to speak, with camaraderie, in front of the democratic citizens. Debate is necessary to inform the world”.
