The ballot box sent many messages with many recipients and we must take them into account, SYRIZA MP Olga Gerovasilis told SKAI, referring to the result of the first round of the SYRIZA elections.

The fact that so many people mobilized at a not so good time for SYRIZA shows that our society is sending us a message, said Mrs. Gerovasili and estimated that “apparently the nomination of Kasselakis added to this process”.

“It shows that the people are in need, they are looking, they have confidence in SYRIZA and it gives new impetus” he emphasized and added that next Sunday there will be a large participation in the process.

“I believe that those who did not come last time will also come,” he said.

“It is a strong message, which tells us ‘we want you, we want the pole of the left progressive faction to be created, the country needs it. It sends a message that the country with the Mitsotakis government is going in the wrong direction,” he said.

Regarding yesterday’s video of Efi Ahtsioglou, he commented that there is polarization and it is expressed on the internet where “monsters” appear.

“Mud was thrown at Efi Ahtsioglou that she doesn’t deserve, just as mud was thrown at Mr. Kasselakis with sexist and homophobic comments,” he said and added that Mrs. Ahtsioglou was obviously pressured and felt she had to respond.

Mrs. Gerovasili emphasized that she herself does not follow logic and does not believe that there are “shops” within SYRIZA.

He repeatedly stressed that the country needs a strong official opposition and “we will be here on Monday”.

When asked if there is a risk of a split in SYRIZA, he answered unequivocally: “I am certain that there will be no split, the intention is to fight together. SYRIZA is not a leader-centered party, we decide together, we have organs, of course there is a composition and that’s how we will continue.”

“We are all obliged to be disciplined, here we are not Mitsotakis, ‘I ordered’, ‘I gave an order’. We are an open democratic party, so we will proceed the next day as well” he said and added that “obviously the president has one more say, but that does not mean that it is a decision of one man or one woman” he emphasized.

Asked about him Alexis Tsipras he said he has “maintained absolute neutrality. He said ‘I’m not giving a ring’, but he doesn’t leave the spotlight and is a guarantor of unity.”

As for who she supports, she replied: “I have my choice, but I have chosen quite consciously to be more synthetic. We have to keep our eyes on Monday. The big one is the next day. We must bear in mind that the big moment is on Monday. On this road we will march and go far again.”
