Statement intervention by the secretaries of the SYRIZA-PS Executive Committee Ranias Svigou and Giorgos Vassiliadis was caused by the ongoing tension and disputes at an intense level between the contenders for the presidency and their associates. The two secretaries of the KE ask for it to “stop immediately” and talk about “sexist and homophobic attacks”.

The statement in more detail:

Throughout the previous period, we consciously chose not to make any comments that could be perceived as an intervention in the intra-party dialogue about the new presidency in SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance.

We consider that the role of the Secretaries in such a process is to ensure and guarantee the correct observance of procedures and rules, as provided by the decisions of the bodies and our Statute. And that’s what we did and continue to do. We are working with all our strength, together with the executives and members of the party, so that SYRIZA-PS, our common home, can move forward collectively, democratically and coordinated, in the difficult, new period we are going through.

Last Sunday, the left-wing, progressive, democratic citizens, with their huge turnout at the polls, gave a resounding message. That SYRIZA-PS is here, strong, powerful. That there is a leftist, progressive answer to the arrogant, neoliberal ND of Mr. Mitsotakis.

At the same time, the tens of thousands of men and women gave a message of confidence and perspective to SYRIZA-PS. The power of the world also increases the responsibilities of all of us. We have no right to refute them. We have the historical responsibility to fight with unity, responsibility and stubbornness, so that SYRIZA-PS can once again become the great, governing faction. So that the neoliberal and anti-people government of the ND is gone, so that the country does not go back decades, as the far-right is trying to do with all its versions, inside and outside the Parliament.

Unfortunately, recently, especially through social networks, sexist and homophobic attacks, fake news, insults have intensified. Phenomena that have nothing to do with our space, nor with the tradition of the Left, the progressive space and the Democratic Party. Phenomena that harm all of us. The party itself, but also the co-candidates for the presidency.
They must stop immediately.

It is necessary for civilized dialogue, sobriety and a sense of responsibility to prevail, as well as respect for the opposing point of view. We must not for a moment forget that our opponent is the ND of Mr. Mitsotakis. Because, despite the different opinions and assessments, all of us in SYRIZA-PS share the same values, the same ideas, the same goal. A strong, massive, united party.

Because we all have a historical responsibility towards left-wing, progressive, democratic citizens, but also towards Greek society. To fight with all our strength, with unity and collectiveness, not only for the next day in SYRIZA-PS, but mainly for the next day in the country. .

We move forward united, isolate the extreme voices and turn Sunday into a day of celebration for Democracy, a day to start our liberation from the government of the Right.
