New conflict between the two candidates after Kasselakis referred to a “state” while talking about the pseudo-state – Mrs. Ahtsioglou spoke of ignorance, Mr. Kasselakis attributed the reference to fatigue and “rusty” Greek
For his ignorance Stefanou Kasselakis on critical issues of foreign policy, she spoke Efi Ahtsioglou after reference of the SYRIZA presidential candidate to the pseudo-state with the term “state”.
“Of course it’s a pseudo-state,” answered Mr. Kasselakis in the early morning via Facebook and attributed his reference to fatigue.
In a statement made by Efi Ahtsioglou said: “Yesterday I made a statement about the Mitsotakis-Erdogan meeting and the provocative statements of the Turkish president on the Cyprus issue. In it, I also invited Stefanos Kasselakis to position himself on the critical issues of foreign policy. I could not imagine that the same afternoon he would express the novel opinion that the occupied Cyprus is “their state” (i.e. of the Turks).
This is a very serious error. An error that reveals ignorance about one of the most critical issues of our foreign policy. And this should concern us.
Beyond slogans, politics requires seriousness, competence and knowledge. And this applies multiply to our foreign policy.
I imagine Mr. Kaselakis will retract his statement. For the good of SYRIZA-PS. For the good of all of us.”
The answer Kasselakis
A little later, Stefanos Kasselakis responded via Facebook:
“You will never see me hiding. I got uprooted when I was 14 years old. I’ve been back to my place permanently for just a few months. There are times when I search to find a word in Greek.
Yesterday, in the fatigue and insomnia of the tour, this is exactly what happened to me. Of course it is a pseudo-state.
The Occupied – the wound in the heart of Hellenism. The context, the correction I made within my statement and the content of my speech before were all clear.
Let no one worry. I learn words very quickly. It’s a matter of two months of practice for me. For me, Greek words also have a Greek meaning in them.
The problem is that Mr. Mitsotakis, who has been prime minister for four and a half years, did not find a word to say – he did not even look for it – against Erdogan’s provocation for recognition of the pseudo-state.
He asks for recognition and Mitsotakis meets him and smiles.
The Right and the Far Right have been painfully paid by Cyprus in 1974.
The patriotic Modern Left will be here to prevent any possibility of cunning compromises and offsets in the Aegean islands, in the rest of Greece and of course in Cyprus”.
