The president of SYRIZA issued a joint statement on the changes in the composition of ADAE and ESR Stefanos Kasselakis and the president of the Parliamentary Group Socrates Famelos.

More detail:

The methods of Mr. Mitsotakis are escalating and are brutally affecting democracy and the rule of law in our country. Today, with a clear deal with the far-right Hellenic Solution of Kyriakos Velopoulos, he completed the coup of changing the composition of two independent authorities. And indeed of ADAE and ESR, which deal with freedom of the press and pluralism in the Media, but also with the wiretapping scandal, two cases that have exposed our country internationally for the last four years.

The Mitsotakis government, violating the provisions of the Constitution for inter-party consultation and consultation, up to and including the provision of the 3/5 majority, rejected the proposal of the SYRIZA PS for a relevant opinion of the Scientific Council and postponement of the meeting.

The unimaginable government intervention in ADAE took place while there are still no answers for the wiretapping scandal. It therefore constitutes a direct and vindictive intervention in the work of the Authority, since Mr. Mitsotakis judges that he is not satisfied with the investigations and findings that reveal the involvement of the government and the EYP in the scandal.

The revelation by the representative of the Hellenic Solution that the government’s far-right deal for the ESR may be linked to a fine of 2 million euros against Mr. Velopoulos by his failed administration is also an extreme parliamentary incident.

In order to achieve its goal, the ND, which has brought Greece to the last positions of freedom of the press worldwide, chose to leave out of the composition of the ESR scientists and professors of known prestige, as was customary until today.

The now clear collusions with the extreme right, with shameless exchanges, certify the decline of the rule of law in our country and formalize the government’s turn to “Orban practices” to control power.

Today’s choice of Mr. Mitsotakis portends similar methods in the future for the rest of the Independent Authorities, since Mr. Voridis, faithful to his far-right starting point, wants to get rid of democracy and its principles.

SYRIZA PS will not stop exposing Mitsotakis anti-democratic strategies inside and outside the Parliament. At the same time, it will contribute to the formation of a democratic progressive front that will overthrow both Mr. Mitsotakis and his far-right allies and bring to Greece a progressive governance as well as the restoration and strengthening of the European acquis and the rule of law.
