The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the Organization for Earthquake Planning and Protection (OASP) announce the organization of an Operational Exercise with the code name “MINOAS”, to deal with a large Earthquake and Associated Geodynamic Phenomena, which will take place in the Region of Crete at the beginning of spring of 2024.

As the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Vassilis Kikilias stated “Following the order of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, we are planning the Implementation of the “MINOAS” exercise, which is the most effective method to strengthen the operational readiness and interoperability of all involved bodies in a Local, Regional and Central Level.

The objectives of the operational exercise are to improve and upgrade both the coordination of the services and the process of collecting and evaluating the information as well as the emergency and crisis management plans.

At the same time, we seek the training of all agencies, especially in critical structures and services, as well as strengthening the readiness of volunteer groups.

Finally, one of the main missions of this exercise is to sensitize the general population on matters of self-protection and refuge in suitable places”.
