The Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Dimitris Kairidis, spoke to SKAI about the concern that prevails regarding the possibility of a new wave of immigrants from Palestine and about the effects that the Israel-Hamas war will have on our country.

These issues were also raised during yesterday’s extraordinary meeting of the KYSEA, with the main concern being the assurance of the country’s internal and external security and the readiness of all competent services in a state of vigilance and alert.

As stated by Mr. Kairides, the security and intelligence services in the country are on standby, while increased security measures are in place at the country’s borders, both on land and at airports.

Greece is talking to Egypt from where those who leave Gaza will probably try to cross to Europe. For now, however, Egypt has closed the passage from Gaza.

Palestinians who arrive in Greece are considered refugees – they apply for asylum and are given asylum and travel documents. However, every application is considered case by case, and with a very strict identification process. emphasized the Minister of Immigration and Asylum.

There are currently around 3,000 asylum seekers of Palestinian origin in the accommodation facilities.

Regarding the episode in the structure of Samos, the minister emphasized that the video was released by a Hungarian far-right site that specializes in these “upheavals”. The structures are absolutely calm and safe, said Mr. Kairides.
