Who is Haris Doukas?

Harry Doukas, was born in 1980 in Athens, is a Mechanical Engineer and Professor of Energy Policy and Management at the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in Greece.

The field of specialization of Dr. Haris Doukas is related to the development of decision support systems for energy and climate policy, putting the human factor at the core of modeling processes and promoting this philosophy in high impact scientific journals (such as Nature).

The policy models he has developed use linguistic variables to incorporate elements of human behavior into policy-making, enabling the design of policies that can and do listen to “what citizens want” and include “what citizens can do,” elements important to their success.

In this way, the models and decision support systems he has developed “open the black box” of policy decisions, directly and transparently introducing human perception, synthesizing “bottom-up”, for the development of modern green policies. This is the reason why they have been widely accepted by the scientific community (e.g. a special edition of Research Features), and have been used in a number of applications of sustainable policies at the national and local level.
