Two-day “hell” in Parliament with a show and a reference by Polakis, but also a lawsuit by Georgiadis

by

Two days of great tension and counter-appeals in the Parliament, with the former Deputy Minister of Health Pavlos Polakis becoming once again a red cloth for the majority.

It all started on Monday, with the episode that was caused, when Pavlos Polakis took the stage during the discussion on the development law. There he referred to the Novartis case to the Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadis.

In order to maintain order in the process, the chairman of the Plenary, Charalambos Athanassiou, interrupted him, asking him to “return to the issue”.

“Whatever you do, I will tell you!” Mr. Polakis answered him, with Mr. Athanassiou answering him: “Do you not comply?” and then remove his speech.

Then Mr. Athanassiou invited the Speaker of Parliament, Costas Tassoulas, to the hall to rebuke the SYRIZA MP.

Mr. Polakis, however, did not show any shyness and started addressing Mr. Georgiadis outside the microphone, saying: “I will tell you from here!”.

Despite the voices of Ad. Georgiadis to the presidency (“let him say it!”) Mr. Athanassiou insisted on his decision and ordered the practitioners not to record anything of what Mr. Polakis said.

The insistence of Mr. Polakis not to step down from the podium, despite the efforts of his own Parliamentary Group, made the Speaker of Parliament Costas Tassoulas to talk about an attempt by Mr. Polakis to occupy.

The tension in the Plenary Session was repeated today, with Mr. Polakis insisting that he did not occupy the Plenary Session, but waited to be reprimanded by the presidency.

Mr. Tassoulas returned sending a strong message that he would not allow anyone to turn the Plenary Assembly into hell and announced that he was referring Mr. Polakis to the Ethics Committee of the Parliament.

For his part, the Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadis stated that he has nothing else to discuss with Mr. Polakis and that he is proceeding with a lawsuit against the former Deputy Minister of Health.

Pavlos Polakis also clarified that he will not apologize to the Minister of Development for the Novartis case.

Grace period is over …

In the center was the Movement for Change, which received strong criticism for the political choice to keep equal distances between ND and SYRIZA.

The government spokesman, Giannis Oikonomou, was clear: “PASOK is wrong. Obviously, he has decided on his priorities and strategy and that is his right. He has turned the steering wheel to the left, because that’s what he thinks he has to do to occupy a space, which he thinks is privileged for it. However, this is completely different from what happened yesterday in Parliament. “Things here are specific and you can not keep equal distances from those who try to humiliate the institutions, from Polakismos which is identified with the opposition tactics of SYRIZA on the one hand and with the rules of democracy and parliament on the other”.

Responding today to the objections, the parliamentary representative of KINAL, Costas Skandalidis, said: “We are a parliamentary party. We are neither referees nor MAT to face your political absurdity”.

Officially, KINAL stated in a comment: “Tonight’s sad picture in the Greek parliament confirms that some people are consciously seeking the deepening degradation of the institutions. The hooligan conflict between ND and SYRIZA leads to unprecedented situations and transforms the Greek Parliament into the Parliament of a third world country.

Together they create and maintain a toxic climate that strengthens the crisis of citizens’ trust in politics and degrades the quality of our democracy.

“These images and these attitudes are not worthy of the Greek people.”

Besides, the head of the KINAL Central Committee, Michalis Katrinis, responded to the criticism: “KINAL does not accept suggestions about what its attitude should be. Lessons and suggestions of party patriotism and political culture, obviously you can not do, we are the faction of Andreas Papandreou, the struggle for democracy and the great social changes. We are the future of our place “.
