“A party that signed the Prespa Agreement cannot be dissolved, it is a historical legacy and must run its course,” said Mr. Zachariadis
“Success and victory belong to Mr. Doukas, I voted for him in the second round and tried to convince others as well, it is a joy for every progressive citizen in Athens as a failed administration has left,” said Kostas Zachariadis on Wednesday morning in SKAI regarding the municipal elections.
“Our defeat is related to the broader difficulty that exists in our own space and we have not been able to communicate our message within the short period of the election period”
“SYRIZA cannot be dissolved and make a joint ballot with PASOK”
Regarding the cooperation scenarios with PASOK, Mr. Zachariadis states: “It could be a good idea in Parliament for joint proposals concerning labor issues, the functioning of the public administration and the environment. However, the two spaces have their own path, their own history, and their own existence and for a reason. I don’t know why Mr. Spirtzis is talking about joint ballots, I think it is something hasty. A party that signed the Prespa Agreement cannot be dissolved, it is a historical legacy and must run its course,” said Mr. Zachariadis and added “We can try to expand and regroup.”
Asked if there will be departures from SYRIZA, he said: “I estimate that we will not have departures from the party and I say that if something like this happens it will be a difficult situation. We want to restore unity.”
Regarding Stefanos Kasselakis, who on the day of the self-governing elections, had moved to America, he said: “The leadership of a party is not only its president, it is also the executives, we are all present. All together we will be able to rearrange the space. SYRIZA is no longer a presidential-centric party, it is a members’ party. Our president is not an instrument.”
“Tsipras is in a leading role”
Kostas Zachariadis, on the occasion of the resignation of Alexis Tsipras in June and the members of the party who did not react to this decision, said on the TODAY show:
“Alexis Tsipras is here, he’s just not the president of the party. June’s decisions were respected by all on the basis of a successful cycle that was closed so that new cycles of new roles could be opened.”
Finally, when asked when the SYRIZA conference will take place, Mr. Zachariadis replied:
“The conference will take place at the beginning of 2024. We have a new leadership that cannot be judged in 15 days, it will be judged by society. The big bet is the European elections and along the way the parliamentary elections. Our goal is that the faction will be able to become a majority again. Our opponent remains New Democracy and not PASOK”.
