The topic of the section was mentioned by Euclid Tsakalotos in his statement at the meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA-PS, pointing out: “SYRIZA-PS comes out of the two national elections, the presidential and local elections, badly wounded. In this atmosphere I hear the calls for unity. But unity will not come if we do not seriously look at the reasons that have created the traumas.”

Mr. Tsakalotos criticized the way in which Stefanos Kasselakis claimed the leadership but also his actions after his victory: “Politically, but also humanly, I was greatly influenced by the speech of the president that evening, where after thanking the thousands of SYRIZA voters who came to the polls, he told us that he won the light. What did he want to say? That Efi Ahtsioglou or I represented the darkness? More importantly, the group that supported him – both at the central and middle management level – waged an unacceptable war against other candidacies. We were learning that he was the chosen one of Alexis Tsipras, that the party must carry out a deworming – language coming directly from the rhetoric of the extreme right. Others wished us good migration. You don’t call them interventions aimed at unity.”

He also criticized Alexis Tsipras for not taking a position and explained: “He could have made a post before the first election that would clarify two things, without “breaking” his neutrality, but on the contrary it would strengthen it: first that ” I remain neutral in this election process” and secondly that “I do not allow any candidate or supporters of any candidate to say that I support them, but I also do not think that any other candidates undermined me.” I don’t know why he didn’t, but that’s part of the trauma.”

Criticizing the new president, he pointed out: “Let me just say this: if the new president insists on his unmediated relationship with the people, in essence all intermediate bodies are abolished, the importance of the Political Secretariat is also abolished, the possibility of a minority to have a say is abolished ».

In closing he referred to the unity of the party: “In conclusion, unity will be tested in the coming weeks. I don’t think the case is lost, but I’m not optimistic either after the first moves of the new leadership. I remain committed to the cause of the renewed and radical Left. In the next period it will be seen if this case has a future within SYRIZA-PS”.
