“Two years after the deadly blow of Egelados in the Municipality of Minoa Pediados, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is ‘evicting’ with summary procedures the earthquake victims who live in small houses who are not the owners of the houses that were destroyed, but tenants”, the department heads complain in a joint statement of SYRIZA-PS, Infrastructure and Transport, Haris Mamoulakis and Development Christos Giannoulis.

In their statement they explain: “Through a notice, the earthquake victims were informed that by 12/31/2023 they must leave the houses they live in. It is worth noting that in the Municipality of Minoa Pediados there are still seven camps with small houses in which about three hundred earthquake victims live. The one hundred and thirty-nine (139) cottages belong to the Greek government and fifty (50) come from donations given. All this is happening at a time when the earthquake victims are facing auctions and 2,250 files with applications for the restoration of buildings have not been examined as only 29 approvals have been given for the reconstruction of damaged houses.

They then note that following the parliamentary interventions of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance on the problems of the earthquakes and the current question submitted on September 13, “we submit a new question, which asks the co-competent ministries what actions they intend to take in order to remain the earthquake victims who are not owners but renters of houses in the Municipality of Minoa Pediada?”
