“SYRIZA-P.S. has an obligation towards Greek society, our country, and especially the new generation, to submit a winning government proposal and a way out for the future of Greece”, says the president of the SYRIZA-PS parliamentary group in his interview with “Avgi tis Kyriaki”, Socrates Famous.

“Until the conference that will take place in February, a political analysis and a political composition for our new identity is required. For a party that will be left, European, ecological and profoundly reformist. Which will be, at the same time, governmental but also grounded in society, which will give a governmental outlet, hope and perspective to Greek society”, says Mr. Famellos and adds: “We will shape our political positions all together, integrating the new members in party life. This is how we can ensure unity and collectivity, through joint action and the co-formation of positions. Not looking inward, but toward society.”

Mr. Famellos refers to the political conclusions of the self-governing elections, especially the second round: “It seemed that citizens are looking for a way out of Mr. Mitsotakis’ policy and are looking towards the progressive space. The citizens literally turned into a coup (e.g. in Athens, Thessaloniki, Thessaly) the crack that appeared in the first round of self-governing elections. They expressed their reaction and condemnation of choices supported by the government of Mr. Mitsotakis, but also of administrations that had no work to show… The citizens have shown us how the Mitsotakis regime and familialism is overthrown.”

Regarding the Budget for 2024, he comments: “it confirms once again that the policy of the New Democracy government it is class-based, discriminatory and unfair to the vast majority of citizens. The central idea of Mr. Mitsotakis’s Budget is that the rich become richer and the poor poorer, i.e. a continuation of the unfair redistribution of income and property… The Budget proves that the government meekly follows a fiscal model of surpluses imposed in Europe, without formulating a substantial fiscal and development proposal for Greece. I remind you that the SYRIZA government in 2019 left as a legacy the fiscal and not only conditions for an inclusive and integrated development, with productive reconstruction and a regional dimension”.

He finally answers those who talk about joint SYRIZA-PS ballot papers. with PASOK-KINAL: “we are clearly talking about an ecological, democratic party of the European Left, which will claim independence in the next national elections. The collaboration of progressive forces obviously and it is for us an identity issue. SYRIZA-P.S. by simple analogy, it has long since submitted a proposal of cooperation to the rest of the progressive parties… Cooperation for us means taking joint initiatives on issues that concern the progressive space and are important for society, the economy and the country. This is what we did in the recent self-governing elections, where we supported progressive candidates, without party egos on our part, and we also had positive results. The fact that we are positive about cooperation and joint action, especially in matters of democracy, the environment, self-government, does not mean that any discussion has been opened about co-operation or common descent in the European elections or in national elections”.
