Mitarakis’s response to Soilou’s accusations: Tragedy is the death of 12 immigrants, but they never reached the border

“Completely non-existent” characterizes the Minister of Immigration and Asylum, Notis Mitarakisthe objections made by Minister of the Interior of Turkey for the repatriation of 22 immigrants from Greece to the Turkish border, 12 of whom died of the cold.

In a written statement, Mr. Mitarakis characterizes “tragedy” the death of 12 immigrants at the Turkish border, however, clarifies that “the truth behind this incident has nothing to do with the false propaganda published by my counterpart, Mr. Soilou.”

It is noted that the Turkish minister in a post on social networks stated that 12 immigrants “out of 22 who were repelled by the Greek customs” were found dead from the cold today in Turkey near the Greek border.

In his answer o Greek Minister of Immigration clarifies that “these migrants never reached the border. “Any suspicion that they did arrive, or that they were sent back to Turkey, is completely non-existent.”

Mr. Mitarakis notes that the Turkey “Instead of making baseless allegations, it must live up to its obligations and work to prevent these dangerous journeys” and “instead of blaming others, it must take responsibility if we want to prevent such tragedies from happening again.”
