The rift in SYRIZA is growing more and more after the election of the new president Stefanos Kasselakis and the impeachment of historical officials.

In a joint statement issued by Efi Ahtsioglou, Alexis Haritsis and Nasos Iliopoulos, they request that the extraordinary congress of SYRIZA be expedited, citing signs of the dissolution of the party.

In more detail, the joint announcement they issued:

“SYRIZA is in a very serious crisis. The situation in our party is no longer alarming. It is solvent. And we have an obligation – to the hundreds of thousands of citizens who support us – to stop this downward spiral.

Political disagreements exist. For this reason, the holding of an Extraordinary Congress has already been determined, which should now be expedited. However, our path to this point should be taken with respect to our programmatic positions and the statute that clearly defines the rules of our operation. It cannot be characterized by internal enemy logics and purge practices.

SYRIZA-PS has a long tradition of internal democracy with rules and respect for procedures. Even in extremely difficult conditions, the search for the synthesis of different opinions was a given. Unity presupposes collectivity, adherence to procedures, principles.

Under the circumstances that have developed, an immediate meeting of the Political Secretariat of the Party is necessary. We all have a responsibility for unity. And first of all the leadership of the party”.
