The ongoing situation in the Middle East, in the context of the coordination that exists between Washington and Athens to promote stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, was discussed on Monday by the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken with the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. According to the announcement of the State Department, the head of the American diplomacy underlined the support of the USA in the efforts to modernize the Greek defense, and thanked the prime minister for the continued assistance that our country provides to Ukraine.

“Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken spoke today with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The minister and prime minister underlined their commitment to deepening the bilateral relationship between the US and Greece, as well as US support for Greece’s defense modernization efforts, in line with NATO interoperability requirements. The minister discussed the ongoing situation in the Middle East and reaffirmed the importance of addressing the humanitarian suffering in Gaza. The minister reiterated Israel’s right to self-defense according to International Law. The two spoke about their shared goals of promoting stability and prosperity in the eastern Mediterranean and beyond. The minister thanked Prime Minister Mitsotakis for Greece’s continued assistance to Ukraine.”

For his part, the Prime Minister repeated to Mr. Blinken the Greece’s position on the condemnation of Hamas terrorism and Israel’s right to self-defense.
