The “great importance” of his meeting of the Supreme Council of Greece-Turkey Cooperationon December 7th in Athens, in connection with the dynamic course of the Positive Agenda, explains in today’s article in the newspaper Apogeumatini the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Economic Diplomacy and Outreach, Kostas Fragogiannis.

The meeting of the Supreme Council of Cooperation between Greece and Turkey, chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as Mr. Fragogiannis emphasizes, “reflects the favorable climate prevailing in Greek-Turkish relations at the moment”, which “is in the interest of all to maintain”, as today’s challenges “do not leave much room for confrontations and rivalries, but instead require collaborations and convergences”.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs refers in particular to the Positive Agenda, which promotes bilateral economic cooperation and is an initiative of Economic Diplomacy and a strategic choice of the government, as a significant part of the issues that will be discussed on December 7 is part of it.

The December 7 meeting on the Positive Agenda topics will be the 6th meeting under the initiative. “At the last meeting on October 16 in Athens, we confirmed in a warm atmosphere with my interlocutor, Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkey Burak Aksapar, our common will to proceed immediately to sign a series of agreements on specific actions that have matured.”

“Having started with 15 topics” adds Mr. Fragogiannis, “the Positive Agenda currently has 31 topics. Among them, some topics can promote the activity of small and medium enterprises on both sides in the fields of construction, transport, tourism. Others will encourage Greek and Turkish start-ups to jointly create innovation ecosystems and cooperation in the field of research and technology. And others concern synergies and exchange of know-how between university and research bodies in the field of green transition. Very recently, in fact, we have agreed on two new themes/initiatives that we will announce on December 7 and are about the new generation and innovation.”

Finally, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that in terms of its value, the Positive Agenda “has evolved into an institutionalized process which has dynamics and multiple benefits. Its topics touch the daily lives of citizens in both countries, facilitate entrepreneurship and the economy, and have a positive impact on other aspects of transnational cooperation.”
