A few days before the Mitsotakis-Erdogan meeting in Athens on December 7, the head of the Turkish navy questions the sovereignty of Greek islands and accuses Greece of increasing the tension.

The statements were made public in Turkey both through reports and videos.

Among other things, as reported by Manolis Kostidis from Istanbul, Erzumed Tatlioglou stated that “in the Aegean there are islands whose sovereignty and sovereignty are disputed”, that “the Greeks, by visiting some islands, try to present them as their own”. , that “the Greeks militarized 19 of the 23 islands with a demilitarized regime” and that “the Greek navy is increasing its power. We need to get new ships.”

Tatlioglou’s statements in detail: “There are eight basic problems with Greece. Seven of them concern the Navy. You see the problems on the slide. Instead of solving these problems, Greece is taking actions that increase the tension. Greece, instead of solving the problems, there are islands that should be demilitarized.. These islands are 23. Nineteen of them Greece has militarized. As you know, there are our islands and islets in the Aegean whose sovereignty and ownership are disputed. In these islands, they organize visits as if they are their own, They try to present them as their own. When they get the chance they try to implement their own strategy. Greece in 2020 in the west extended its territorial waters to 12 miles. He tries to send the following message when I find the right opportunity and in the Aegean I will extend my territorial waters to 12 miles. In conclusion, Greece is trying to become a leading power in the region. Greece here before had fewer ships compared to our level. Now it has reached the same level. So we need new ships, different platforms”.

Meanwhile, Turkish analysts said that “we will not allow the Greeks to gain air supremacy in the Aegean”, while the scenarios of buying Russian fighters are coming back.

Academician Mesut Haki Jasin said: “Against us we have a challenging Greece. In a few years he attempts to gain air supremacy. And he is doing this on the orders of the US. Turkey cannot allow this. The Turkish people cannot allow Greece to draw its sword in the air of the Aegean. Maybe Germany sees this. And as our president said. If they don’t give us these (Eurofighter), we will get them from somewhere else. We have money.”

“So what else? Maybe the Su-57s? Let’s show this plane. What is the position of the Su-57, the characteristics? Could it be the alternative?’ the CNN Turk reporter asked.

“The Russian Su-57 fighter has some of the same systems. They have amazing aerodynamics as well as engine” replied Jasin.
