Her their departure by SYRIZA-PSthey announce with a joint statement one a significant number of members of the Rights Sector as well as the majority of its secretariat.

Among those leaving are the head of the sector Panos Lambrou and the coordinator Vasiliki Katrivanou.

In the text they distributed to the media, they claim that with their departure “the emblematic Rights Sector, which in the last 12 years had a significant presence in the field of rights and the Left with hundreds of actions, solidarity campaigns, initiatives and announcements, effectively ceases to exist.” They also discount: “Today’s declaration of withdrawal is expected to be followed by a wave of new withdrawals from all over the country, of people who are at the forefront of the fight for the rights of refugees and immigrants, Roma, LGBTI+ community, the disabled, prisoners, as well as in numerous initiatives of of the anti-racist and anti-fascist movement”.

Here is the withdrawal statement:

“A long journey has come to an end. However, the journey to defend rights and freedom never stops. Every end also marks a new beginning. This is the unbroken struggle for human dignity, with battles many times unequal, but which reveals the two different worlds, the one we are in and the one we want to build.

All of us who sign this text, members of the Rights Sector, declare that we are withdrawing from SYRIZA PS. This party is no longer our common home, we do not recognize ourselves as part of a formation that every day shifts more and more to the right, more and more conservative and away from the vision of the world we want to create.

We leave with dignity to guard our history and with a unique agenda to continue fighting for a better tomorrow. We are withdrawing from SYRIZA PS because we do not want to withdraw from the struggles, from the social movements and our obligation to be with the “invisible world”, this world that the neoliberal policies, those that appear as the only truth, marginalize , they abuse and impoverish him daily.

With us we take as a legacy labors and efforts we dedicated to the cause of rights and the Left and the thousands of political and real kilometers we traveled. A path that was often against the current and the prevailing perception and especially against those, as many and as many, who sought “intermediate” or “neutral” solutions and tried to impose graveyard silence.

Also, we take with us the big and historic moments, but also the small, uncomfortable ones. Even in the most difficult moments for SYRIZA’s relationship with organizations of the field and the other Left, the Rights Sector proposed its function as a receiver of claims “from below” constantly seeking to ground itself with the ideas and initiatives of the movements, maintaining parallel channels of communication with the broader forces of the movement and the Left.

We take with us the wins and the losses, the things that made us bitter and the things that made us feel proud. But above all, we take our memories with us, with the promise to keep them alive.

Memories that start from the reception of refugees at the port of Piraeus and the constant solidarity in the world of refugees and reach the grand anti-fascist mobilizations against the brutality of the criminal organization A.A..

We hold on to all the moments when we came face to face with deep-seated social perceptions and gender stereotypes that produce femicide.

We take with us the memories that shout “DIKEOSINI” against police violence and arbitrariness, the memories that tear down walls, fences and prisons and those that lock up institutions – hellholes for disabled people.

Glitter-filled memories of Zackie rallies and LGBTQI+ pride celebrations. Memories full of humanity, solidarity, co-responsibility and camaraderie.

The journey that ends with this text has been exciting, but it has not been painless. Perhaps her greatest pain is right now, when the old is tottering and the new has yet to come. Maybe not again. But what we know for sure is that the Left whose principles we insist on, primarily defends man, all living beings and their environment. In the world we are in, all of the above are not a priority in practice, in the world we want to build they are inviolable principles. And we will continue to fight for these inviolable principles.”
