UEFA’s decision to rule out Crystal Palace from the Europa League group stage and throw it in the Conference League has sparked unprecedented reactions in southern London.
Hundreds of “eagles” fans took to the streets and reached the team’s stadium, Selhurst Park, shouting slogans against the European Federation and holding banners with messages: “UEFA: morally bankrupt” and “football was created by the poor, but the wealthy stole it.”
UEFA has decided to “cut” Palace from the Europa League due to the ownership of Eagle Football Holdings, which also controls Lyon. Although Crystal Palace had won the FA Cup and had won her European qualification on the court, she was considered to be violating the regulations on multipurpose.
The Palace Administration, led by its president, speaks of enormous injustice and prepares the CAS. At the same time, it has begun collection of signatures to overthrow the decision, with over 3,000 signatures within a few days.
Organized friends of the team warn that this course was just the beginning of a broader campaign to change the way European football operates, stressing that teams should not become a “victims” of a system that serves the interests of a few.
