The newly elected mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, appeals to the government to abandon the punitive logic and to give incentives to the Municipalities for the implementation of the recycling goals.

“Just one month before the assumption of duties by the new municipal authorities, the Government suddenly legislates measures that, arbitrarily, remove significant amounts from the Central Autonomous Resources, hamper vital financial functions of the Municipalities and threaten citizens with new financial burdens.

Unfortunately, the outgoing authority of Mr. Bakoyannis, who was a leader in recycling, is among those who put pressure on the government for this intervention”, emphasizes the newly elected Mayor of Athens in his statement.

In particular, Mr. Doukas states:

“Just one month before the assumption of duties by the new municipal authorities, the Government suddenly legislates measures that arbitrarily remove significant amounts from the Central Autonomous Resources, hamper vital financial functions of the Municipalities and threaten citizens with new financial burdens.

Unfortunately, the outgoing authority of Mr. Bakoyannis, who is a leader in recycling, is among those who put pressure on the government for this intervention.

We have committed to reducing the amount of waste by 50% within five years and we will make it a reality. We call on the government to abandon the punitive logic and to stand with substantial incentives on the side of the Municipalities for the realization of the recycling goals.”
