For his part, the Minister of State, Stavros Papastavrou, stated that legislation is quite similar to computer programming, the simpler, cleaner, coded it is, the easier it “runs”, the more efficient and useful it is.
The conference on “National Codification Portal / Integrated Regulatory Process Platform through Evaluation and Update of Standards of Good Legislation and Legislation and Regulatory Process” organized by the Ministry of Digital Governance, in collaboration with the General Secretariat of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, was successfully completed. The event took place in the building of the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance.
The Ministers of State, Mr. Stavros Papastavrou and Makis Voridis, the Minister of Digital Governance Mr. Dimitris Papastergiou, the Deputy Minister of Interior, Ms. Vivi Charalambogianni, the Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, Mr. Kostas Kyranakis, the General Secretary of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Stylianos-Ioannis Koutnatzis, the General Secretary of Interior and Organization, Mr. Athanasios Balerbas, the General Secretary of Information Systems and Digital Governance, and Dimosthenis Anagnostopoulos, the Special Secretary of the Parliament, Mr. Vasilios Bayiokos, the Special Secretary of the National Printing Office, Mr. Dimitrios Georgikos, the former Minister, Honorary Vice-President of the Council of State and President of the Central Codification Committee, Mr. Georgios Stavropoulos, the professor of the University College London and president of the International Association for Legislation, Mr. Eleni Xanthakis, the General Manager of the General Directorate of Projects of the “Information Society SA” Mr. Dimitris Yiantsis, the Regional Governor of Attica, Mr. Nikos Hardalias, the President and CEO Councilor of EKOME and former Secretary General of Digital Governance and Process Simplification Mr. Leonidas Christopoulos, as well as representatives of the contracting companies.
The Minister of State, Stavros Papastavrou, noted: “Within three years, the Central Codification Committee has completed 14 codes, more than those that had been completed in the previous two decades of operation of the Codification Committee in Greece. But it also goes a step further, as it recommends a “digital embodiment” of good legislation. And this is because the National Portal has at its core, in its digital DNA, the very principles of good legislation. I am sure that it will be a digital foundation of the government’s versatile and modernizing reform project.”
THE Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, in turn, underlined: “Today’s event is taking place right above the GIS data center, where a lot of the state’s legislative data is located. Legislation – you know – is a lot like computer programming. The simpler, cleaner, coded it is, the easier it “runs”, the more efficient and useful it is. Like code in computers. This, precisely, makes the work presented today so important. Better legislation for the benefit of all. Congratulations to those who worked to complete this initiative.”
It is pointed out that the National Portal for the Codification and Reform of Greek Legislation is planned to be the electronic hub of codified legislation, which will be organized according to updated standards. It will present Greek legislation thematically classified and will make it available free of charge to the general public.
Finally, through the National Codification Portal citizens, businesses and public bodies will gain direct and free electronic access to the updated and codified national, legislative and regulatory texts, which will be gathered and produced within the framework of the project.
