Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias is in London this afternoon for a meeting with the new British Undersecretary of State for European Affairs, Chris Heaton-Harris, who is acting Foreign Minister due to the isolation of Liz Tras, who has been insulted by Mr.

Mr. Dendias returns to the British capital after October, showing the importance that Athens attaches to the role that Britain can play in a number of issues of Greek interest.

Among them are issues related to Turkish policy, such as the Cyprus issue and the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean in general, which are on the agenda of the discussion.

Mr. Heaton-Harris, who succeeded Wendy Morton as Minister of Europe last December, just last week in a letter to the UK National Federation reaffirmed London’s support for a United Nations solution to the Cyprus problem, based on federation.

Also on the agenda will be developments in Ukraine, with the British Minister. Foreign Minister to visit Moscow on Thursday, as well as the Western Balkans.

Bilateral relations are also high on the agenda, as agreed to be strengthened under the Memorandum of Understanding on the Strategic Bilateral Framework signed in October between Mr Dendias and Mrs Tra.

Nikos Dendias also meets with the ambassadors of the Bahamas and Brunei, who have parallel accreditation in Athens. He will do the same on Tuesday with the ambassadors of 33 countries from Africa, Latin America and Asia in Rome, where he will go. The purpose is to promote the Greek candidacy for election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the two years 2025-2026.

In a statement from London at noon, the Greek Foreign Minister noted that “the United Kingdom remains a major global player and any attempt to contact the British government is of great importance to us, the Greek government, the Mitsotakis government.”
