N. Kerameos pointed out that the envelopes of the postal vote, as well as the ballot box in which it will be placed, will be kept by the police in a specially designed area
The postal voting process is absolutely guaranteed in all its stages, assured the minister of the interior Niki Kerameos. “The solution that we propose and will discuss in detail with the parties incorporates all the safeguards dictated by the OSCE which has given guidelines for the countries that apply the postal voting system” said the minister speaking to ANT1.
He pointed out that the envelopes of the postal vote as well as the ballot box in which it will be placed, they will be kept by the police in a specially designed area with closed-circuit coverage and strict security measures, while upon receipt, the application of strong security barriers that will ensure identity will have preceded.
He added that they have already started contacts with the parties and stated that the government is absolutely open “in every discussion, in every reflection, to every proposal that the parties of the Parliament may have for improvements”.
Finally, the minister left open the possibility of implementation of postal voting in national elections as well, clarifying however that “the issue is more complex, it has more parameters, more settings. Let’s go step by step. At the moment the initiative is located in the matter of the European elections, and the holding of any referendums. From there on, we will discuss it in other electoral procedures as well.”
