Her satisfaction with Erdoğan’s visit and the optimism that Greece has “turned the page” after 2.5 years of crisis with Turkey, he expressed ND MP Dora Bakoyannis speaking on the show “Today” on SKAI.
“After the earthquakes, there seemed to be a change in Turkey’s rhetoric with the reduction of overflights that have huge costs for the Greek people. Every day the planes and pilots were in the air on a 24-hour basis, while the submarines had been under water for a month,” he pointed out and added: “It was not a funny period. Yesterday we turned the page. those who said that even if you find a crack you have to continue the dialogue were right. The Turkish president came determined not to create the slightest problem.”
Mrs. Bakoyannis also noted that in the 20 years that Erdogan has been president, there has been no crisis with Turkey. “Erdogan is in a difficult position internationally and has to balance on a tightrope, with NATO and the USA while he has open fronts with Syria, Libya”, he said and estimated that he has every reason to show that he has good relations with a European country .
Regarding the Declaration signed by Greece – Turkey noted that this is an effort that had started under Constantinos Karamanlis. “It is not structural but it has political value as it includes all the positions of Greece”, while regarding the visa for Turkish citizens he said that this is a “stimulating injection for the islands” and added “We have a long road ahead of us, it does not mean that we have finished our issues with Turkey but we have made a significant step forward.
Regarding the position of Antonis Samaras regarding the visit of the Turkish president to our country, Mrs. Bakoyannis noted that when he was prime minister he followed the same tactics as all Greek governments. “The assessment he made was wrong. I respect everyone’s opinions,” he said and concluded that “we never said Erdogan is a yoke. But we are always ready for the good and the good script.”
For same-sex marriages and childbearing, admitted that she had changed her mind, recalling that 20 years ago she had voted against a related regulation in the Council of Europe. “I looked into it and changed my mind. I know how many children live with reduced rights”, he concluded
