Dendia series of contacts in Italy with ambassadors with parallel accreditation in Greece

With the ambassadors of African, Asian and South American countries, with parallel accreditation in Greece, he met in Italy the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias. During his meetings, Nikos Dendias explained the firm Greek positions on national issues and asked for the vote of their countries for the Greek campaign for election to the United Nations Security Council, for the period 2025-2026.

In particular, he met from Africa with the ambassadors of the countries: Angola, Ethiopia, Cλεte d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Republic of Guinea, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mali, Mali, Mali Uganda and Senegal. The agenda included the positions of our country, the strengthening of relations with African countries and the presentation of Greece’s candidacy to the UN, according to a post by Nikos Dendias on Twitter.

From South America, Nikos Dendias met with the ambassadors of Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica, Honduras and Paraguay. During the meeting, the Foreign Minister expressed the desire to visit Latin America and the Caribbean in the near future and presented Greece’s positions and the country’s candidacy to the UN. and reaffirmed the common commitment to the International Law of the Sea, underlines a corresponding post by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also met with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan, where, in addition to Greece’s candidacy, bilateral cooperation was discussed, with an emphasis on economic, trade and cultural relations, in view of Nikos Dendias’ forthcoming visit to Tashkent.

He even had a meeting with the ambassador of Yemen. The meeting focused on developments in Yemen, issues of bilateral cooperation in the light of a meeting between Mr. Dendias and his Yemeni counterpart Ahmed bin Mubarak last November and Greece’s candidacy for the UN Security Council.

Concluding his visit to Italy, the Foreign Minister met with the Ambassador of Oman, with parallel accreditation in Greece. Discussions focused on Greece-Oman relations, following Nikos Dendias’s visit to Muscat, developments in the Middle East and the Gulf, as well as the joint commitment to the Law of the Sea.

As part of his contacts in Rome, Nikos Dendias also met with the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on Libya and the Executive Director of the UN World Food Program. During the meeting with the Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General for Libya, Stephanie Turko Williams, the latest developments in Libya were discussed, with Mr. Dendias emphasizing the issue of the invalidity of the illegal and non-existent Turkish-Libyan And to reiterate Greece’s constructive position in promoting stability in Libya.

Regarding the meeting with the Executive Director of the UN World Food Program, David Beasley, Nikos Dendias states in a post that he had a constructive conversation about the assistance to the development of Libya, in the context of the active presence of Greece in the country. He further added that he had announced to David Beasley, on behalf of the Greek government, a donation to fund the WFP program, aimed at rebuilding the port of Benghazi in Libya, which is a critical entry point for food and humanitarian aid.
