More than 700 projects, amounting to over 12 billion euros, among which large and emblematic ones are underway in Thessaloniki and throughout Northern Greece, putting it back on the development map not only of the country but also of the Balkans and Europe.

This was characteristically stated by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, responsible for Macedonian Thrace issues, Efstathios Konstantinidis, during the debate in the Plenary of the Parliament, of the 2024 state budget.

Mr. Konstantinidis focused his speech on the actions and interventions of the Ministry of the Interior for Western Macedonia and Thrace, stressing that “our bet is not to lose a single euro of the huge funds intended for the energy and development transition of the country and Western Macedonia”.

“In previous years, the technical and legislative part was completed and already from the first months of 2024, the programs will run for the absorption of very important, hundreds of millions of euros, for aid to investment projects that intend to come and settle in Western Macedonia, and they concern small and medium as well as large enterprises”, he pointed out and added:

“More than 700 projects and large emblematic projects in Thessaloniki but also in the whole of Northern Greece, are in progress and are valued at a budget of over 12 billion euros, putting Northern Greece back on the development map, not only of our country but also of the Balkans and Europe”.

As Mr. Konstantinidis said, among the emblematic projects that are underway and will strengthen the development of Thessaloniki are:

– the reconstruction of the TIF

– the construction of METRO which is estimated to be delivered to the citizens of Thessaloniki in 2024

– the start of construction of the FLY OVER, a very modern road axis for Thessaloniki

– the implementation of the 6th pier extension project.

“The Deputy Ministry of Macedonia Thrace, has a range of activities concerning interventions in both the building stocks and cultural activities and is equipped with increased resources in order to implement these actions”, said the Deputy Minister of Interior.

“We have signed program contracts with the involved bodies of Northern Greece, in order to join forces and proceed with what the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis has promised. A Northern Greece, a Macedonia and a developmental Thrace that will create jobs, that will attract new people to settle there. We are sure that with the good planning that has gone before and with the many funds available, we will succeed”, concluded the Deputy Minister of the Interior responsible for Macedonian Thrace issues.
