What is taking place in the Middle East “causes concern”, emphasized the Minister of National Defense
The book is both a means of learning, as well as a cause for reflection or a starting point to immerse yourself more in some issues. It is a “window” in short, which allows you to broaden your horizons. This he emphasized in his interview in the annual insert about the book in the newspaper “Eleftheros Typos tis Kyriaki” and to the journalist – book critic Iulis Tsakalou, the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias.
“Even in the most demanding circumstances,” he continued, “I always make sure there’s time to read a book. The fact that I have to travel often for the needs of my duties, both in the current ministry and in the previous one, gives me the opportunity to creatively utilize, by reading, the time of the transition and return”.
Regarding the book he is reading at the moment, Mr. Dendias said: “I am reading “Conflict, The Evolution of Warfare from 1945 to Ukraine”, by David Petraeus and Andrew Roberts. In fact, I had the opportunity to meet D. Petraeus recently, at the work of the 14th Sir Bani Yas Forum, in the United Arab Emirates.”
He pointed out that Spyros’ father encouraged him to read the magazine “Illustrated History” while regarding his role model, he underlined that “for all of us it is the people who chose to serve things and values that go beyond them”.
He clarified that he remains “so far at least a fan of the printed text” in relation to e-books while emphasizing that “in general, citizens who consistently love reading books, usually have expanded intellectual horizons that help them have a different attitude towards life and recognizes the ‘traps’ of intolerance”.
For what is happening in the Middle East, made it clear that they “cause concern” while adding that “the absolutely reprehensible and horrific attack by Hamas regarding the treatment of unsuspecting civilians, as well as the hostage-taking of even children, brought to the fore situations that we wanted to hope had been overcome with the time”.
“It is true,” he said, “that it will take considerable time for conditions to mature and for the historical adversarial relations in the region to be definitively overcome.”
He also noted that: “I want to believe that I am fully aware of my responsibilities as Minister of National Defense to maintain the deterrence capability of our Armed Forces, which, after all, is a major factor in maintaining peace.”
“Maintaining the deterrence capability at high levels is what sends the message, to enemies and friends, that Greece is never going to tolerate any attempt against our national sovereignty and our sovereign rights” concluded the Minister of National Defense.
