Post by the President of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, Stefanos Kasselakis
“When the Family loses power, it finds another way of self-protection: It becomes a regime. Especially if it is going to cover an elected member”, comments Stefanos Kasselakis on the occasion of the amendment for “Anaplasi SA” which was submitted to the bill of the Ministry of Finance.
In particular, the president of SYRIZA-PS states in his post on social media that “as long as the mayor of Athens was of the family, he held the position of president of the municipal company “Anaplasi Athens SA”. Now that he is not, K. Mitsotakis throws him out with a last-minute amendment.” “Read the post of the new mayor Haris Doukas and you will understand the reasons”, adds Mr. Kasselakis accompanying his post with the relevant announcement of Mr. Doukas.
While the Mayor of Athens belonged to the family, he held the position of President of the municipal company “Regeneration of Athens SA”.

The president of SYRIZA-PS emphasizes that “the new municipal authority had previously announced that it would proceed with an administrative audit of the actions of Mr. Bakoyannis for the Great Walk of the University and for other “walks” with the smell of scandal”. He comments after them that “when the Family loses power, it finds another way of self-protection: It becomes a regime. Especially if it is going to cover an elected member of it”.
Reactions also from K. Zachariadis on the amendment regarding “Anaplasi Athens SA”
In the reactions of Haris Doukas to the amendment regarding “Anaplasi Athens S.A.” they came to be added and the reactions of Kostas Zachariadis. The head of the “Open City” faction, in his statement, speaks of the “unacceptable, anti-democratic and establishment treatment” of the citizens’ verdict in the recent municipal elections, calls on the current mayor, Kostas Bakoyannis, to take a stand and requests that the amendment be withdrawn .
First, Mr. Zachariadis states: “With a last-minute amendment to the multi-legislation of the Ministry of Finance, the government throws out of the Board of Directors of “Anaplasis SA” both the mayor of Athens from the position of chairman of the Board, as well as 3/5 of the members of the municipal council of the Municipality of Athens. The control of the company passes entirely to the government, since both the appointment of the new managing director and the members of the board of directors are made through the supervisory ministers’ decree.
The company of the Municipality of Athens which was in charge of projects such as the “big walk” of the University, Vasilissis Olgas and other projects – possible scandals – changes hands a few days before the new municipal authority and the new municipal council take over”.
“In its original form, Law 4539/2018 did not provide that the chairman of the Board of Directors is the mayor of Athens. Added by law of the ND (Article 59 Law 4663/2020). I think the reason is obvious. Evidently, for the same reason they repeal this law now that the municipal Authority has changed. This is an unacceptable, anti-democratic, establishment response to the new situation formed by the citizens’ verdict on October 15, 2023 in the Municipality of Athens”, adds the head of the “Open City” faction.
“It is obvious that what is being attempted with this decision is to frustrate the financial and management control that the new municipal authority and factions in the municipal council intend to carry out on this company and its actions. Mr. Bakoyiannis must now take a position and Mr. Mitsotakis must now withdraw the amendment”, concludes Mr. Zachariadis.
