SYRIZA is even threatened with a 20% fine on its annual state funding, Mr. Chrysogonos said
On the legal side of the rumored loan that Stefanos Kasselakis allegedly granted to SYRIZAthe former MEP and constitutionalist Costas Chrysogonos mentioned while speaking on the Thessaloniki radio station Status 107.7 and on the show of Dimitris Venieris.
He explained that if there has been funding from a natural person to a political party that exceeds 20,000 euros per year, the party is obliged to return it as soon as possible and in any case within the financial year in which the funding was paid, otherwise it is threatened with a 20% fine on its annual government funding.
Mr. Chrysogonou’s comment on the loan to SYRIZA:
“The law does not exempt the presidents only in the case of concessions to the party of part of the compensation of an MP or MEP of the party, which Mr. Kasselakis is not,” he pointed out, noting that the law on party lending refers to borrowing from banks.

“We know that the parties are completely deficient organizations… In any case, the control committee will judge it. I don’t want to prejudge. If, however, it is considered to be private financing, SYRIZA is threatened with a fine”, he stressed.
Asked if the 20% penalty of the annual grant it is paid by the natural person or the party, Mr. Chrysogonos clarified: “The party. 20% of the funding will be withheld. If the audit committee judges that the law has been violated.”
