The new presidium of the regional council of Central Macedonia was elected
In an atmosphere of cooperation and “by a show of hands” the new Regional Council of Central Macedonia was elected in the morning. Theodoros Mitrakas was re-elected president, from the “Solidarity” faction of regional governor Apostolos Tzitzikostas, vice-president Kelly Valtadorou from the “Actions for Macedonia” faction of Christos Papastergiou and general secretary Giorgos Chavatzas, from “Laiki Syspirosis” led by Sotiris Avramopoulos.
At the start of the meeting, he took the floor the regional governor of Central Macedonia, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, who, after welcoming all the members of the new regional council, wished them “a good year and a good start in the new five-year term”.
As Mr. Tzidzikostas said “this regional council, this regional term will go down in history as a five-year period of significant changes for all the regional units of Central Macedonia which will really take the lead nationwide”.
“I firmly believe in the power of the place, to the capabilities of our people and to the fact that all the previous years laid the foundations for the completion of the most important projects that Central Macedonia has seen for many decades. And of course, let’s start new, important projects that will improve the quality of life of our fellow citizens, will create conditions for Central Macedonia to play a leading role in the development of Greece and Europe, to become the capital of extroversion for all of Greece”, added the regional governor of Central Macedonia.
He reiterated the goal of creating a Region “modern, green, smart and humane”, while he described cooperation as “key”. In this context, he called on the opposition factions “to move together. Yes, we will have disagreements, there is no doubt about that. As long as the disagreements lead to useful results for citizens. The opposition with new faces and new factions can be and will be a useful, constructive opposition that will help us in the administration to improve every day.”
After the election of the new presidium of the regional council followed the election of the ten members of the new Regional Committee of Central Macedonia. Lefteris Kyrizoglou, Vivi Kourtidou, Stergios Mourtzilas, Simela Kyriakidou-Tsialoukis, Natasa Sotiriadou, Thanasis Liakopoulos were elected from the coalition and Yiannis Mylopoulos, Christos Papastergiou, Stamatis Papoulidis and Giorgos Chavatzas from the opposition.
