This wonderful archaeological park can and should become a catalyst of economic development for Vergina, for Imathia, for all of Macedonia, said the Prime Minister
The inauguration of the restored palace of the king of Macedonia, Philip II in Aiges, which has been labeled “Parthenon of Macedonia”, is an event of global importance and a very large international scope, said the prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakisduring his speech at the opening ceremony which took place at the Polycentric Museum of Goats.
“It is not by chance that I have chosen to be here again, in the first, essentially, visit of the new year, honoring a monument of the Kingdom of Macedonia” said the prime minister and emphasized:
“Our bet is to be able to make Aiges a meeting point with the greatness of our ancient ancestry. A stamp of their timeless Greekness but also a part of our modern life. This wonderful archaeological park can and should become a catalyst of economic development for Vergina, for Imathia, for all of Macedonia.”
At the same time, he noted that the proliferation of visitors to the archaeological park of Aige is a “national bet”.
Mr. Mitsotakis stated that he was impressed by his tour of the restored palace, referred to Manolis Andronikos and congratulated archaeologist Angeliki Kottaridis and her colleagues.
The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, the Deputy Ministers of Rural Development Dionysis Stamenitis, Macedonia and Thrace Stathis Konstantinidis, the MPs Apostolos Vesyropoulos, Anastasios Bartzokas, Lazaros Tsavdaridis, Fanis Pappas, the regional governor of Central Macedonia Apostolos Tzitz Ikostas, the deputy governor of Imathia Kostas Kalaitzidis, the mayors of Veria Konstantinos Vorgiazidis, Naoussa Nikolaos Koutsoyiannis et al.
