In its announcement, the Foreign Ministry notes that Greece will continue to fully support the UN Secretary General’s efforts to find common ground for the resumption of negotiations
“The Greek Government warmly welcomes the announcement of the General Secretariat of the United Nations on the appointment of Ms. María Angela Holguín Cuéllar as the new Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Cyprus“, says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.
“This is an important step in the context of the ongoing efforts, under the guidance of the Secretary General of the United Nations, to resume negotiations, with the aim of achieving a mutually acceptable, fair and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue, on the agreed basis of the Resolutions of United Nations Security Council, as well as the principles and values of the European Union” he adds in the same announcement.
“We hope that the new UN Envoy will successfully coordinate the effort to find common ground to resume negotiations in this context.”
“For its part, Greece will continue to fully support the efforts of the Secretary General of the United Nations in this direction, in close cooperation and coordination with the Republic of Cyprus and its President Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis”, he emphasizes.
