The New Left is moving towards its organizational formation, which on January 12 and 13 will hold in Athensnationwide executive meeting “with the aim of planning the organizational structure of the New Left, the elaboration of its founding declaration and the preparation of a founding conference at the end of February”.

According to the sources of the KO of the New Left, there will immediately be a targeted campaign that will call for the participation of citizens in this process. They point out that 80 events are planned, “while the organizational formation of core supporters of the New Left proceeds with a large participation and presence of people from the entire spectrum of the progressive world.” “January and February are months of intensive forays throughout the territory,” they say. The same sources state that “the New Left is the new thing in the political life of the country. He says what he believes and believes what he says. It has three clear goals – social justice, climate justice and the reboot of Democracy – and wants to act as a meeting point for left-wing and progressive citizens who feel that the hegemony of the Right is leading our society to a dead end.”

In addition, in January, the New Left will launch a nationwide campaign to be precise “which will show that the inflation of greed is a political choice of the ND and that there is a way out of this suffocating condition with specific measures and legislative initiatives”. At the same time, as he has previously announced, KO will bring a proposal for the marriage of same-sex couples with full rights – i.e. the right to have children – as well as a proposal for the housing crisis “with decisive measures for short-term rentals, the golden visa and the possibility of a new policy that will burst the housing price and rent bubble.” Furthermore, he plans for the next period interventions for the postal vote with a proposal for citizens to vote where they live and work, while also “will fight against private universities and open the necessary discussion about the phenomena of youth violence that are connected with modern inequalities”.

The same sources state that the New Left is advancing the transformation of its parliamentary presence into a “broad political and social current within Greek society”, arguing that “the first messages are extremely promising” and that “the crisis in the space of the left and centre-left leads progressive citizens in search of a modern, serious, convincing way out of the pressing problems of everyday life and a response to the hegemony of the Right”.

Highlighting the recent visit of Alexis Haritsis and Petis Perkas to the affected areas of Thessaly – which “contained the strong symbolism that the New Left begins its journey from where the climate crisis and government responsibilities have led to an unprecedented disaster”, they announce that the New Left will submit a topical question to the prime minister in the coming days on two axes. Firstly, the rehabilitation of people who feel that they have no future in their place and, secondly, the strategic plan so that Thessaly does not become deserted, but becomes an example of a new development model. Similar tours have been planned for Evia and Thrace led by Alexis Haritsis, while, as they say, “fermentation with the area of political ecology is intensifying in view of the European elections”.

The same sources state that the New Left believes that “there are possibilities for a new era in the left and more broadly in the anti-right faction in Greece, there is a political vacuum, crisis and weakness of traditional formations and the anxiety of millions of citizens as to whether what we live is a one-way street”. They note that “to this anxiety, the New Left will respond with its action: that is, showing inside and outside parliament that there is a possibility for another politics with radical cuts that will serve the material interests of the many. For social justice where the crisis will be shouldered by those who get rich, climate justice which is a condition for the survival of the country, the restart of the Democracy, so that the citizens feel that it concerns them and serves their needs and rights”.
