Moments of emotion and worship took place on Sunday (7/1) in New Philadelphia and in AEK Shop of the OPAP Arena.
Where more than three thousand fans of the “Union” rushed to commemorate the great day of the legend of the “two-headed” and Greek football, Thomas Mavrou.
It is recalled that 2,000 jerseys that were made available were sold out within an hour and a half from the official start time of the event and will be re-circulated.
The legend of the “Union”, then, was excited as can be seen from the video posted by the “yellow and black” PAE, which commented “no one can compare in the hearts and souls of the fans to Mavro».
In detail, the AEK update:
More than three thousand AEK fans of all ages celebrated Thomas Mavros’ big day at the AEK Shop at the OPAP Arena in New Philadelphia. At today’s event, two collectible jerseys from the great scorer’s glorious past were available, as well as the line of lifestyle clothes designed in his honor!
The Eternal Ambassador of AEK signed countless autographs and took pictures with young and old in an event that started in the morning and continued until late afternoon, since the attendance of people at the event was non-stop!
The response exceeded all expectations. It is truly beyond description what happened in New Philadelphia for Thomas! No one can be compared to Mavro in the hearts and souls of the fans and that is why today, almost 37 years since the last time he played in the AEK jersey, history was made again! It should be noted that the 2,000 jerseys that were made available sold out within an hour and a half from the official start time of the event!
The joy and emotion of Thomas Mavros was evident. Many years have passed since he served AEK inside the playing fields, but he remains loved and popular even among the generations who did not see him play football.
The Communication Advisor of AEK PAE Yannis Karalis welcomed the people who had flooded the AEK Shop and described in rough lines what the name Thomas Mavros meant and what it means throughout time for AEK.
Thomas’ old teammates could not be absent from this big day in his honor. Dozens of them visited the AEK Shop at the New Philadelphia stadium and were close to him.
Today’s event was an initiative of PAE AEK partner Elias Armodorou, who had been a teammate of Thomas Mavros at AEK in the 80s. The Commercial Director of PAE AEK Nikos Karauzas was also present at the event.
