According to him, it was “time for brave political choices” for SYRIZA Costas Zachariadis, Thanasis Theocharopoulos and Yiannis Ragousis, who in a joint letter ask the party to join the group of European Socialists and Democrats by leaving the Eurogroup of the Left.

With their joint intervention – a proposal in view of the conference of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, the members of the Political Secretariat underline that the decision for the inclusion of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance in the Political Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats of the European Parliament is a fundamental choice, confirming a related SKAI report on Friday.

“The battle of the next European and national elections will not be decided on the territory of the radical Left, but in the territory of the Center Left” mention features.

The text of the three SYRIZA executives in detail

“Time for brave political choices

SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance: The great Center Left.

To join SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance in the Political Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats of the European Parliament

The country’s political system, after the last national elections, is shaped by an overdominant ND and a strong presence of the Far Right, which for the first time do not have as a political and parliamentary counterweight a strong progressive opposition.

This unprecedented post-political imbalance in the political system is socially and politically necessary to be addressed immediately.

The great political as well as historical responsibility falls to SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance. Because on the one hand it was designated by the Greek people as the Official Opposition of the country and on the other hand because no other party of the progressive opposition, despite the significant weakening of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, has proven that it can be the alternative solution that will challenge sovereignty with claims of the SW.

However, in order to be able to play this role, SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance, now that a first historical cycle has been completed, must put an end to the mistakes and deal with the big political issues.

Now is the time for SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance to make a big choice.
To clearly decide that it aims to be the party of the great Center-Left, the main spokesman of the great Progressive Faction in our country, which expresses and – above all – unites the citizens from the Left to the Center who are not integrated into the strategy of the conservative faction.

In this context, brave decisions are required that will signal this choice – both substantively and symbolically – making the goal of the government perspective possible.

Such a fundamental choice at the European level, especially in view of the upcoming European elections, is the decision to join SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance in the Political Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats of the European Parliament, in which it has been invited and accepted to participate in all the last years as an observer.

This fundamental choice is combined with a progressive program framework, which must be specialized in the Congress and which has specific priorities: the reduction of inequalities, the creation of a strong social welfare state with an emphasis on health and education, on workers, on the middle classes socially and financially, to those who produce and create, to address the problems of youth at work, to housing and education, to the fair and inclusive green transition, to the protection of households and businesses that have bad loans from the sloppiness of banks, funds and servicers.

We are no longer in 2004, when the Party of the European Left was founded, nor in the years of the memorandums.

The geography within the European center-left has also now changed. The examples of Spain and Portugal are indicative.

Therefore, we are interested in a strong Center-Left, political opponent and counterweight to the Right and its policies, in Greece and Europe.

The battle of the next European and national elections will not be decided on the territory of the radical Left, but on the territory of the Center-Left.

In today’s conditions, there is no justification for any delay in the necessary decisions which deprives us of the necessary penetration into the world of the Center-Left which is the majority in the progressive space.

The absence of a strong Center-Left allows the conservative faction to penetrate and dominate the space of the center.

The path to the reconstruction and recovery of SYRIZA – Progressive Alliance is the path shown by the Center-Left.

This is the road that can lead to a successful result in the European elections, and we will fight for this successful result.”
