Kyriakos Mitsotakis gives a full interview to the state channel, setting, among other things, the framework for the marriage of same-sex couples and childbearing, in view of the bill that will be given for public discussion.

Watch the prime minister’s interview live:

First the prime minister addressed the issue of the F-35s, saying that the request is “absolutely ripe to be approved by the US Congress”, stressing that Greece is not involved in US decisions on Turkey’s F-16s.

Referring to Greek-Turkish relations, he emphasized that they are at the best point and declared himself optimistic about the future, stressing, however, that the issues that exist are difficult to resolve, but the climate between the two countries, recently, is at a very good level.

“There is no Greek prime minister who does not wish to resolve the issues with Turkey, as long as it is within the limits of the country’s interests. I am not naive, I have seen many changes from Turkey. After three meetings with Mr. Erdogan, however, the water has gone down the drain.”

As for the accuracy, the prime minister stated that it is the number one problem of Greek households, adding that “I know how difficult it is for many households”.

“For some specific product categories, we make additional interventions. It is unjustifiable for multinational companies to sell more expensively than other countries.” He added that “if what I say upsets these companies, what should we do?”

“We have to find the balance so that we can reduce prices but also not have shortages of products, like baby milk, with companies withdrawing their products.”

On same-sex marriage, he said: “We will legislate marriage equality. The elimination of any discrimination. We are talking about a civil marriage. This happens in many European countries. I respect the Church, but let’s not forget that it was against civil marriage and cremation. We will respectfully listen to the Church, but I don’t know if we will agree. I want the discussion to mature before I bring the issue to the Parliament for discussion.”

Regarding childbearing, he said: “Same-sex couples have children, but these children do not have equal rights. A cohabiting mother has cancer and may die. If this happens, the child will go to an institution. The other woman has no right over him. I look everyone in the eye and ask… is this what we want?

We will not interfere with the assisted reproduction regime. This concept of women turning into child producing machines, as the official opposition leader said, I want a boy, will not happen. We will not become a production workshop in Greece. There will be no parent 1 and parent 2 in the bill.
