The head of the Central Committee of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoubas, in an interview with the “Haravgi” newspaper, asked “what is the role of the Left” in a world where wars, poverty, unhappiness and anti-popular measures are the main characteristic, he said that “within this “footprint” of 2024 there is the role of that ” of the left”, of the integrated into the system, which in the parliaments and the European Parliament votes for anti-popular measures, war spending, favors the imperialist war in Ukraine, earlier in Libya, Yugoslavia etc., often even from government positions, or even his position of NATO. “And there is the KKE, other communist and workers’ parties in the world, who clash with all this and mobilize, organize the people’s struggle, reveal the cause, which is in the capitalist system, and work hard to create the conditions for the overthrow of this system . Regarding the causes of the rise of the extreme right, he said that “first of all, the bourgeoisie and its state mechanisms support the extreme right and fascist forces, which are used as “tip of the spear” of capital against the people’s struggle”.

He noted the “great responsibilities of the bourgeois governments and parties that with their anti-popular policy feed the disappointment” as well as the “responsibility of the “left”, social democratic parties that ruled in Europe, such as SYRIZA in Greece” with promises “that proved “an empty letter”, since the capitalist system is not “humanized”” and “led to the disappointment of wider popular strata, who trusted social democracy, and to a conservative turn”.

“Furthermore, major European countries lack CPs with strong forces in the working class and a modern revolutionary strategy. This is another factor for this development,” he stressed.

D. Koutsoubas described the strengthening of the KKE’s political influence as a “hopeful message”, while to the question “at what percentages is the party aiming for the European elections” he answered that “the KKE is emerging as a strong force of labor-popular opposition to the ND government. This is a key criterion for further cooperation and strengthening of the party in the daily struggle for every popular problem and in the European elections. The workers and the youth do not need MEPs who will praise the EU, an imperialist union, as right and left “singers”, but fighters, who will oppose it, will fight for disengagement from NATO – EU with the people sovereign in our country”.

He emphasized that the KKE has “hundreds of thousands of allies, the living social forces that stand with the KKE and we aspire to expand this partnership even more, with those who are convinced every day that the system has “eaten its bread”, that a conflict with the monopolies is necessary for us to have conquests and to open the way to put in the “trash can” of History those and those who “make our life unlivable””.
