As Koumoundourou’s press release states, this is a union with many thousands of members, who work exclusively as drivers – not taxi owners – and are in a disadvantageous position due to various government choices.
The issues that concern taxi drivers were discussed in the meeting held by its president SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis with the Attica Taxi Drivers Association.
As Koumoundourou’s press release states, this is a union with many thousands of members, who work exclusively as drivers – not taxi owners – and are in a disadvantageous position due to various government choices.
Special reference was made to the problems of the register of professional drivers and owners, which is necessary to have a clear picture of the sector, to the lack of transparency in the transfers of commercial vehicles for public use, as well as to the problems of non-implementation of the collective labor agreement.
According to Koumoundourou’s information, the president of SYRIZA – PS, who was accompanied by the competent department head of K.O. of the party, Haris Mamoulakis, “listened carefully to the workers, fully understanding the difficulties, anxiety and uncertainty about their professional future. He referred to the need for clarity in the transfer regime, transparency in the registers and strengthening of the Labor Inspectorate to ensure their labor rights”.
Finally, Mr. Kasselakis stated “the clear support of SYRIZA – PS to the fair demands of the working drivers and the will of the official opposition to highlight them within the Parliament, through the appropriate means of parliamentary control, pressuring the ND government for fair solutions».
