With a diplomatic maneuver o Kyriakos Mitsotakis he avoided placing himself directly in Davos in his “thorny” re-election scenario Donald Trump in the US presidency.

Speaking to Foreign Policy magazine editor Ravi Agrawal at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the prime minister was asked about the former US president’s “shadow” hovering over the Forum.

“I thought our time was up” Mr. Mitsotakis initially answered jokingly, pointing to the clock in the hall, with the audience laughing.

Afterwards, however, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized: “I worked closely with both President Trump and President Biden, and at the end of the day I think it would be particularly inappropriate for any foreign leader to take a stand for what is essentially a democratic process. We in Europe will work with whoever the American people choose to elect as their next president. Citizens do not like opinions or doomsday or over-optimistic scenarios. Sometimes they have the opposite effect. People don’t like preaching or being told what to do… We may all have our preferences, but I think it’s best to keep them to ourselves.”

“You are more diplomatic from (JP Morgan CEO) Jamie Dimon,” the reporter commented.
