Its president PASOK-KINAL, Nikos Androulakis, strongly criticizes the government for the continued accuracy as, as he argues in an article in the Weekend NEWS under the title “Government’s white towel in the battle with accuracy”, it shows a tolerance for profiteering and an unwillingness to take meaningful measures to deal with it by increasing the insecurity of citizens and the difficulties of everyday life.

“With the tolerance and blessings of the government, Greece remains the “Eldorado” of Europe for all kinds of oligopolies, which sell their products at -unacceptably-higher prices”, asserts the president of PASOK-Movement for Change, while criticizing the prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, saying that “in order to justify the unjustified and with an excess of hypocrisy, he recognized for the first time after two and a half years the “greed inflation”. A greed, which is described in detail in the super profits of the super markets which only in the first ten months of 2023 increased by 646 million, of the banks which are expected to exceed 4 billion and of the energy companies. Even the state, taking advantage of inflation, collected in 2022 and 2023 from the VAT 4 billion more revenues than it had budgeted for.”

As Mr. Androulakis mentions, in addition to super markets, “greed inflation is hitting red” in real estate as well, where from 2018 to 2022 the cumulative increase in rents for family homes ranged from 37.2% to 42.1%. “…through the golden visa, thousands of apartments come into the possession of residents of third countries. The low threshold for obtaining it in areas outside the center of Athens, such as Piraeus and Peristeri, extends the problem. The immediate abolition or suspension of the golden visa in real estate is now a national and social necessity,” he notes.

The president of PASOK-KINAL emphasizes that the government on the issue of accuracy and cost of living has failed and points out: “A different policy mix is needed, aimed at reducing social inequalities, with a state that intervenes in the market when necessary, has strong control mechanisms and can deal with profiteering”.

He adds that it is not acceptable as an excuse for not reducing the VAT on basic goods that it will not be passed on to consumers, when it is the state’s responsibility to ensure this.

“The prime minister and his government remain the traffickers of powerful financial interests, who are amassing super profits at the expense of the prospects of the middle class and the most vulnerable for a better life. PASOK serves a completely different vision for the country and its economic development, with the aim of creating well-paid jobs, reducing social inequalities and upgrading the quality of life of all Greeks. This is our goal and we fight for it every day with consistency and solutions that have been successfully implemented in other European countries”, concludes Mr. Androulakis in his article.
