With vulgar expressions and homophobic comments, the president of the Spartans, Vassilis Stigas, spoke to the Parliament expressing his disagreement with the bill for same-sex couples.

At one point in his speech, he showed a photo of two men with a child and said: “Two men with two children. This photo is not normal. It is a shame for the human species.”

When SYRIZA MPs protested, Vassilis Stigas replied “you are a transgender party”.

At another point in his speech he said: “You can open a window to pedophilia, since no one can guarantee that a homosexual couple is not a pedophile at the same time.”

He continued: “Soon straight people will start feeling guilty about not being gay. Of course everyone accuses us of being homophobic. How come; Why are we pushers rather than pushers? For God’s sake. We will get to be ashamed.”

Mr. Stigas went on to say: “We must resist. And you gentlemen of New Democracy should not listen to anyone and be here to speak and vote against this bill. I will say something that is not mine. It was said by Sarantis Kargakos, a very serious man, a great Greek, who said that ‘we are living in the age of the emission and prostitution of our nation, speculators and crooks run the country’. On the occasion of the death of an actor, he had written ‘you have chosen to poison people’s memory, to consecrate the past, with false tears and equally false humanity’.

After the protests of his colleagues, Vassilis Stigas declared that he was withdrawing.
